Burton SC at Foremark reservoir is holding a Discover Sailing, Windsurfing and Paddleboarding Open Day on the 18th April 2026 from 10AM to 4PM.
Burton SC enjoys excellent sailing facilities at Foremark Reservoir amidst the dramatic Derbyshire countryside, in the heart of the National Forest within easy reach of Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Leicester and Loughborough. It is a fun, family friendly club that provides a vast range of activities from training for beginners to regular racing, windsurfing and offshore sailing. Burton SC are proud to be a long-established RYA-affiliated training centre. we also have a small team of Stand-Up Paddleboarding instructors who are accredited by British Canoeing.
Open Day Activities
For sailing a buoyancy aid will be provided, and we recommend wearing comfortable clothes and footwear that you don’t mind getting wet (just in case!). If the weather isn’t very warm a windproof coat would be beneficial.
For windsurfing buoyancy aids wetsuits and spray tops will be provided, but please bring neoprene boots or shoes or trainers that you don’t mind getting wet, swimwear and t-shirt or rash vest to go under the wetsuit and a towel.
Don’t worry if you’ve not been sailing/windsurfing before! You will be taken out on the water with a qualified instructor or an experienced sailor.
You could bring a towel and maybe some spare clothes (particularly if you are bringing children). There will be changing facilities on site. Sun hat and sun scream are also important if the forecast is sunny. You will be able to purchase refreshments on site (tea, coffee, BBQ, cakes etc) so small amount of cash or card will be handy.

Publicity
Burton Sailing Club sometimes takes photographs during the open day which are used for publicity on the club website or advertising material. All such usage will be anonymous and not used for any other purpose.
Risk statement
On the water activities inherently involve an element of risk. By taking part in activities on the open day, each participant agrees and acknowledges that:
- they are aware of the inherent element of risk involved and accept responsibility for the exposure of themselves to such inherent risk whilst taking part in the course;
- they are responsible for their safety and their property whether afloat or ashore;
- they accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own actions or omissions;
- the provision of instructors, safety boats and other officials and volunteers by the course organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
- it is their responsibility to declare any pre-existing health conditions or other factors that might impact upon the risk involved in advance of the course;
- it is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this event drawn to their attention in any course joining instructions or briefing.
It is the responsibility of the person booking this activity to make all participants of the group (or parents/guardians of any under 18s) aware of the above risk statement.
