Instructor Courses

Burton Sailing Club regularly offer courses for those wishing to qualify as dinghy, windsurfing or powerboating instructors. BSC members interested in these courses are encouraged to also contact the Training Principal for more information. For details of upcoming course dates, see below.

If the course you are interested in is full or the dates are not convenient, you can register your interest with the training team, and we will contact you if new courses become available.

 

BSC Assistant Dinghy Instructor Courses

This is an internal course for members of BSC who are looking to train as an Assistant Dinghy Instructor. The course provides a solid foundation for later qualifying as an RYA instructor.

This course is for members of BSC only.

Minimum age: 13

RYA Dinghy Instructor Courses

This is an RYA Dinghy Instructor Course run in accordance with  National Sailing Scheme Instructor Handbook G14.

The course is run over 6 days, the first day is a Pre-entry assessment and the final day is an independently moderated assessment day.

Places are limited to six (6) students.

RYA Dinghy Senior Instructor Courses

This is an RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor Course run in accordance with  National Sailing Scheme Instructor Handbook G14.

The course is run over 6 days, the first day is a Pre-entry assessment and the final day is an independently moderated assessment day.

Places are limited to six (6) students.

RYA Windsurfing Instructor Courses

These courses will enable you to qualify as an RYA Start Windsurfing, Intermediate Windsurfing or Foiling Instructor. With the Start Windsurfing Instructor qualification, you will be able to teach RYA Start Windsurfing and Youth Stage 1 and 2 courses. The Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor course will allow you to additionally teach RYA Intermediate Windsurfing courses (either non-planing or planing, depending on your ability) plus higher stages of the Youth Windsurfing Scheme. As a Foiling Instructor you will be able to teach RYA First Flights (and beyond, subject to personal skill level).

Start Windsurfing Instructor Course entry requirements:

  • Intermediate non-planing certificate with beach starts and non-planing gybe clinics.
  • RYA-approved First Aid certificate
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
  • RYA Safe and Fun certificate

Intermediate Windsurfing Instructor Course entry requirements:

  • RYA Start Windsurfing Instructor with evidence of 50 hours logged as a Start Windsurfing Instructors at RYA training centre.
  • Intermediate planing personal sailing certificate and the beach starting and non-planing carve gybe clinics
  • Advanced personal sailing certificate with waterstart and carve gybe clinics
  • RYA-approved First Aid certificate
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
  • RYA Safe and Fun certificate

Foiling Instructor Course entry requirements:

  • RYA Intermediate Instructor
  • RYA Sustained Flights Certificate
  • RYA-approved First Aid certificate
  • RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate
  • RYA Safe and Fun certificate

The minimum age for these courses is 16.

RYA Powerboat Instructor Courses

This course is for those wishing to qualify as an RYA Powerboat Instructor

The course is run over four days, including a pre-assessment on 27th January.

Places are limited to six students.
