Burton wins the Interclub event 2012

Written by

For the second year in a row Burton SC wins the Interclub event. The home advantage helped with Burton fielding the largest team in the three club event Burton vs Swarkestone vs Staunton Harold. The event cpnsisted of three handicap races with the number of boats to count from each club in the team racing was agreed at 4 boats as this meant all clubs could compete with no DNC scores counting. The cold wet weather was not ideal but the stiff force 3/4 North Eastery breeze made for some exhilarating racing that was enjoyed by all.  Burton won with 43 points followed by Staunton Harold with 81 points and Swarkestone with 172 points.

The individual race scored with one discard, was more closely fought with three or four contenders for the title going into the last race.  It was won by Tim Bird/Richard Nurse from Burton sailing a 505, Second was R Peppardine from Staunton Harold sailing a Solo and third Craig Hellon from Burton sailing a Contender.

During the event a raffle raised around £50 to be donated to the RNLI.

Many thanks to Colin Butler and the race crew who ran a great days racing in less than ideal conditions, and to the Galley staff who kept everyone warm with the tasty refreshments.
