On Saturday 23rd January Burton SC hosted a Supported Learning event organised by Derbyshire Youth Sailing (DYS). Ten sailors from across a number of the Derbyshire sailing clubs, including four BSC Youth Academy sailors, were coached by four experienced DYS sailors. The day started with some warm up exercises and a run around the club for the Topper sailors and boat rigging for the Laser sailors. For a number of the Laser sailors, this was the first time that they had sailed their boat and despite the challenging wind conditions in the morning they all came off the water looking forward to a warm lunch to refuel them for the afternoon. With the decreasing wind conditions in the afternoon, the sailors were able to develop their boat handling skills and build their confidence with their boats. These events provide a great opportunity for the experienced DYS sailors to share their skills and techniques with other sailors to enable them to improve their general sailing and racing skills.
On Wednesday the 3rd February DYS are running a Winter Learning evening covering Fitness and Nutrition. This event will show how you can prepare and protect your body for/from the rigours of our dynamic sport. These events are open to all members of Burton SC and the will start at 6.45pm. Further details are available on the DYS website – www.dysailing.org.
