15 boats took to the water in the sunshine and very light breeze. A long course was set with most boats completing 2 laps in around an hour. The shifty breeze saw lots of position swapping right through the fleet with the RS400s leading the fleet. The race was won on the water and after pY adjustment by Mark and Ellie Meadows in their RS400 followed by Andy Spencer in a Phantom and 3rd place Martin Nelson in a Super Nova.
Sign up to Bart's Bash with Burton SC as your venue. Let's try and beat last years competitor count at the club. The race is on 20th Sept. at 11:00AM

The Regatta weekend started with fantastic sailing conditions on the Saturday. The usual member training session took place in the morning followed by a brief lunch, then a short series of 7 one lap races of a short 10-15 minute duration. The fleet rebelled and went ashore after four races for some well deserved BBQ before going back out for three more races - well you have to make the most of these conditions when you get them.
The BBQ provided by caterer Paul was equally fantastic along with the wide range of shore based fun activities for the family members not tempted out on the water.
Lets hope Sunday brings the same conditions.
Results for Saturday:
Members, please sign up for Bart's Bash, which we will fit into normal Sunday race schedule on Sunday 21st September 2014. The link for signing up is here:
We want to get in excess of 25 boats competing in this event.
Burton Sailing Club’s 2014 Training Programme is up and running. Courses started with First Aid yesterday and continue over the coming weeks with powerboat and safety boat courses before the main Saturday dinghy starter courses run from late March. Following the success of yesterday’s over-subscribed course, we want to make everyone inside and outside the club aware of our extensive training programme and encourage them to book. Details of how to apply are on the Training page of the website.
The administration of Training Courses has been updated and simplified this week. When someone applies to join a course they now complete a full application form, which will reserve their place on the specific course. When they return the completed and signed form to the Training Administrator, together with a cheque if applicable, their place will be confirmed and joining instructions issued. For anyone who completed a training request form before 29 January, their place should be reserved but it would be helpful if they would re-apply to ensure that all early-birds have been captured by the new system here.
Burton SC will be hosting its second DYS open event this Saturday along with the two day Phantom Open. Races will be scheduled so both fleets are not racing at the same time.
Please note the water is open to members for sailing as normal and there will be catering provided all day Saturday and Sunday.
Tom Coleman represented the Club again in the East Midlands’ regional heat of the Honda RYA rib competition. Competing in the older age category this time, Tom lost out to older (and much taller)
competition but acquitted himself well. Thanks to Steve and Alex for their support in preparing for the competition.
The final will be at the Boat Show in Southampton in September
