This weekend provided perfect conditions for the first day of our ‘start windsurfing' beginners course. There were lots of safety measures in place and some very careful planning required to ensure this could happen... Thanks to all involved!

Huge thanks in particular to our training principal, chief windsurf instructor, safety crew and band of assistant instructors. A fabulous team effort!

New members are always welcome!

We hope to see you out on the water soon.

You may have seen some of our junior windsurfers flying around the reservoir recently.

Under the guidance of new club member and windsurfing coach Max Bushell, some of our members have really taken to windfoiling and are rapidly becoming quite competent in a range of conditions, often reaching exhilerating and adrenaline inducing speeds over the water!

From complete beginner, through to T15 junior race team to British sailing team our windsurfers go from strength to strength, Windsurfing and Windfoiling has become a real growth area of the club in recent years, thanks to the support and dedication of our windsurf instructors and support team. We are hoping to introduce more windsurf tuition and coaching at all levels in the future.

Of course, its not all about racing around at breakneck speed! We have many windsurf members that prefer just a pleasant afternoon on the water in more relaxing conditions. Thats the beauty of the sport, it can be as energetic or relaxing as you wish it to be!

It' been wonderful to see so many smiling faces in the first couple of weeks of our return to the water. We've enjoyed some lovely weather, some good wind and a little rain too but that hasn't got in the way of you all enjoying your favourite sport!

Safety of all of our members and visitors remains paramount in our battle to overcome the pandemic. Although restrictions around the world are being relaxed, the threat remains!  so please continue to observe the clubs temporary operating procedure and help yourself and others to stay safe!

May I please also remind you that although the water is very appealing during this warm weather, swimming is not permitted in any part of Foremark reservoir. A bouyancy aid must be worn on the water or on the pontoon at all times and you must have adequate insurance for your boat, windsurf board or SUP before going on the water.

Under our temporary Covid-19 operating system, we are unfortunately unable to run our popular beginner summer training courses. Those that had already booked have been informed and will be contacted again as and when we are able to resume our training. Our Discover sailing open day has also unfortunately had to be postponed. We hope to run this at a later date if restrictions allow.

We have had quite a number of enquiries from people expressing an interest in joining the club and getting out on the water to sail, windsurf or Paddleboard. I am delighted to say, that we are now accepting new members. membership information can be found here. Becoming a club member provides a cost effective way of getting out on the water. Club members enjoy discounts on all of our training courses as well as low priced hiring of club equipment. New members, either individuals or families are always welcome! You'll find all of our members a really friendly, welcoming and supportive bunch.

You must be a club member to hire club equipment. If you have your own equipment and wish to get out on the water, day sailing (including windsurfing and paddleboarding) is available only if prebooked via our club secretary This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  A day sailing fee of £25 is payable on pre-booking. You will also need to provide details of insurance and experience and abide by the club operating policy whilst visiting the club.

The bar, galley and changing facilities at the club remain closed at the moment but our committee members are working hard to resume full operations as soon as restrictions allow.

To all of our existing members, thank you again for your support and cooperation during these difficult times. For those that are still shielding or are unable to get back on the water, we all send our very best wishes and hope to see you all again soon!

Welcome back!

It was fantastic to see so many smiling faces as we returned to sailing over the weekend. Thank you all for your support, patience and cooperation over recent weeks.

I would also like to thank our committee members for all of their hard work in ensuring everything was in place to provide our members with a safe return to the water.

As we continue our united effort in restricting the spread of the virus, please make every effort to comply with our new temporary operating procedures. they are in place, not only for your own safety but for the safety of all of our members.

These procedures will be reviewed and updated regularly by the committee to comply with government and health organisations restrictions and guidelines.

Thank you again for your cooperation. We are all very much looking forward to the day that we can return to a more 'normal' level of activity

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all 'on the water' activity at Burton sailing club has been suspended until further notice. We hope to be back on the water soon.

Any change in the current situation at the club will be communicated as soon as news becomes available.

Keep well, keep safe.

A note from the incoming Commodore

Following yesterday's AGM, I would like to thank you for putting your trust in me as the new Commodore of Burton sailing Club, a position that I am very proud to hold.

I would like to express my sincere thanks and I am sure, the appreciation of all club members, to the outgoing flag officers, namely: Martin Nelson  (Commodore) Malcolm Hall (Vice Commodore) and Gary Butler (Rear Commodore) for all that they have done during their terms in office. I would also like to thank all that have assisted them on the various committees, many of which have agreed to continue their rolls for the ensuing year. Thank you all!

All that were present at yesterdays AGM are well aware that our club has been left in a good state of health financially and with club member activity on the increase and the improvements already made to our facilities, my job of taking over the reins for the coming year will hopefully, be so much easier.

I am delighted to be working alongside Ian Merrifield, who has taken over Malcolm's position of Vice Commodore, and also Mel Burton, who has taken over from Gary as rear Commodore. Both bring with them a wealth of experience and a strong desire to see the club progress even further going forward.

We can not however do this alone and as such, shall be putting together our respective committees shortly. We would be extremely grateful of anyone that would be willing to get involved and assist us in the future development of our club. Below is a brief overview of each committee and their roles, so if there is a particular area that you think you can offer assistance please let us know.

We have three committees at the club, each meeting once a month.

The General Committee looks after the overall strategic development, communications and publicity of the club and in particular keeps a close watch over the club's finances. I am hoping for us to review the clubs current development plan in the very near future. As this club belongs to us all, I would very much appreciate any input from club members regarding specific areas that you consider could do with addressing or capitalising on to enhance the club. Those of you that have got to know me, should be well aware that I am very approachable and very keen to hear your ideas to help improve the club, so please come and have a chat or drop me a message.

The Sailing Committee oversee all that happens on the water, from club racing and duty fulfilment, to open meetings and all other 'on the water' events. On the water activities are the reason that most of us are members of the club. We are always looking for a fresh approach to increase participation on the water and try to ensure that we provide the format and activities that our members want. We particularly welcome input and participation from all sailing and windsurfing fleet representatives, new sailors, youth representatives and also representatives from our associate universities, schools and scout groups. Please talk to Ian Merrifield if you are willing and able to help in any way.

Finally, the House Committee looks after the clubhouse including the Galley and Bar as well as non-sailing social events too. So if this is an area, that you think that you may be able to offer support, then please speak to Mel.

In other key positions, I am delighted to report that Martin Nelson has decided to continue in his roll of Training Principal. Our training courses have been particularly successful over the past couple of years and have generated a number of new members that have gone on to become very active members of our club. We hope to be able to continue and build on this success going forward.

Philip Coleman has also agreed to continue as General Secretary, a roll that he returned to last year and has once again done a fantastic job alongside our Club Treasurer, Ruth Ford of keeping us well organised and our finances well in order.

I very much look forward to working with you all.
