Welcome to the Burton Sailing Club website
We are a fun, family club that provides a vast range of activities from training for beginners to regular racing, windsurfing and offshore sailing.
We enjoy excellent sailing facilities at Foremark Reservoir amidst the dramatic Derbyshire countryside, in the heart of the National Forest within easy reach of Derby, Nottingham, Burton, Leicester and Loughborough.
More information about the activities we offer, and membership, is given via the tabs above, and the latest news from the club is given below. We hope you enjoy reading about our club, and come and visit us at Foremark soon!
With only three weeks to go until the new sailing season, plans are already underway to ensure 2019 is going to be a great year both on and off the water here at Burton Sailing Club!
Thank you to everyone that attended our annual awards night on Saturday. We hope you all had a fabulous time! It was great to reflect on some of the history that we have at our club, with some interesting stories and photographs doing the rounds that I am sure most of us have not heard or seen before. Huge thanks must go to Vice Commodore 'Malcolm Hall' and everyone else involved in making the event such a success. There were many well deserved awards presented during the evening, from our junior sailors and windsurfers, who have really excelled and progressed over the past year, to some of our more established members, who received much deserved recognition for all of their hard work behind the scenes to keep our club running so smoothly! Well done to everyone and also a big 'thank you' to everyone that missed out on an award but have also worked so hard over the year... We really are blessed with a fantastic bunch of people that turn up when needed, roll their sleeves up and get things done for our club!
Our Rear Commodore 'Gary Butler' and his team are working ferociously on the new galley and aim to have it ready for the AGM on the 24th February. Having seen the progress already acheived, I am sure that you will be delighted with the results!
Our training programme has been scheduled and is already filling up quite rapidly, with some courses already fully booked! We have three new training boats ordered, which we are assured will be ready for our Spring/Summer courses. If you have friends or family that are interested in learning to sail or windsurf, then I would advise them to book their places soon!
Our 'Push the Boat out' open day and taster sessions, has been arranged for Saturday 11th May from 10am until 4pm ... If you could help out on the day, it would be very much appreciated...The more the merrier!. The event has been a great success in previous years with a good number of visitors booking places on our courses and also joining our club.
For our newer or less experienced sailors, we have introduced a few new courses in to the training calender specifically with you in mind. The RYA Level 3 'better sailing' course aims to build on and develop skills already recieved during the level 1 & 2 courses and our 'start racing' course will prepare you for our various handicap race series held throughout the year. We are also planning to incorporate more coaching classes for members of all abilities... if there are training/coaching sessions in particular that you would like to see at the club, please let us know and we will try our best to arrange something for you.
If you have kept up to date with our latest news, you will be aware that we are once again hosting the Scouts summer event this year. This is a huge event for the club, which relies heavily on the help and support of many our members. If you are able to help in any way.. No matter how small. Please contact either Martin Nelson, Keith pallett or Phil Coleman. They will be very grateful for all help offered!
Club membership renewals are now due, so a gentle reminder that if you have not renewed by The AGM on the 24th February, you will not be entitled to vote! ... This is your club so make sure that you have your say!
There are a few positions available on various committees at the club. Our committees are vital for the healthy running of the club. It would be great to see some fresh faces and some fresh ideas to keep the club driving forward... If you are interested to find out more, please have a chat with our Commodore Martin Nelson..
We are trying to improve our channels of communication at the club. As such, the Club notice board in the club house has been updated to include all important and relevant club information. This website and our Burton Sailing Club Facebook page are also updated regularly with club 'news'. 'Important' club information will still be sent out via email to every club member. There is also ther discussion board via the website and the club. Our club 'whats app' group is a great platform for general queries to club members in general and extremely useful for more 'immediate' information. If there are any of these formats that you are not familiar with and would like to be included, please see either Martin Nelson or Carl Avery.
We hope to see as many of you as possible at the AGM and with the water levels steadily rising, many of you back on the water the following weekend for our Sunday March series.. Please see the calender for details
Finally... Have a fantastic 2019. Thank you all for your support!
